Constructed by the German Democratic Republic, starting on 13 August 1961, the Wall cut off West Berlin from East Berlin, until East German officials ordered it opened in November 1989.

For the 28 years it stood, up to 200 people are believed to have died at the wall.

The 9 November 1989 is considered to be the date the wall “fell” but the structure was not completely taken down that night.

The government finally destroyed the wall in 1990 although parts of it remain in Berlin and in museums around the world

Good Bye Lenin! is a 2003 German tragicomedy film, directed by Wolfgang Becker. The story follows a family in East Germany; the mother is dedicated to the socialist cause and falls into a coma in October 1989, shortly before the November revolution.
